Common IGNOU Questions

When will the IGNOU December 2026 Term End Examination begin?

The IGNOU December 2026 Term End Examination is scheduled to begin on 25 November 2026 as per the official notification issued on 5 October 2026. Permission to appear in the examination is provisional and requires valid course registration that is not time-barred, along with timely assignment submission. Students must have paid the examination fee for all appearing courses and completed the minimum prescribed study time. If a student fails to meet any of these eligibility conditions, their result for those courses will not be declared.

What are the daily shift timings for the IGNOU December 2026 exams?

Examinations for the IGNOU December 2026 term-end session will be held daily in two shifts: the Morning Session from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and the Evening Session from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The actual duration for each individual paper will be explicitly printed on the question paper itself. Students must verify their shift timings and course codes on their Hall Ticket released on the IGNOU website. In case of any last-minute exam centre change due to unavoidable circumstances, affected learners should immediately contact their respective Regional Centre.

Which course papers will be conducted in objective (MCQ/OMR) pattern?

Courses BSHF101, FST01, BLI011, BLII012, BLII013, BLII014, PCO1, BEVAE181, BSSS183, DECE01, DECE02, and DECE03 are scheduled in MCQ/OMR objective pattern. In contrast, specific course codes BNS041 and BNS042 will be conducted in descriptive type pattern. Eligible students must ensure they have submitted their required assignments and paid the course examination fees prior to sitting for these papers. If these criteria are not fulfilled, IGNOU will withhold the declaration of the examination results.

Can students write examination answers in Hindi if registered for English medium?

Yes, IGNOU permits students to attempt examination course papers in Hindi medium even if they originally registered for the English medium. This flexibility applies to all programmes except for specific language programmes, where answers must be written in the designated language. Additionally, students in CRD, PGDRD, and MARD programmes can write answer scripts in Bengali for specified courses like MRD201 and MRDE201. Answers written in any unauthorized language will be cancelled and evaluated without prior information.

Will IGNOU consider requests to change exam dates in case of a clash?

No, IGNOU will not consider any requests to change examination dates if the course clash involves papers belonging to the same specified group. Date change requests are also rejected for backlog courses from different years, courses from different programmes, or different specializations in Management Programmes. Students facing date clashes under these conditions must decide which examination to attempt during the session. Under no circumstances will a student be permitted to write examinations for two courses in the same single session.

How should students write a 9-digit enrolment number on the IGNOU TEE answer sheet?

If a student has a 9-digit enrolment number, they must write the numbers carefully and put a cross mark (X) in the last bracket of the 10-digit grid on the answer sheet. Students must never add a zero before the enrolment number to make it 10 digits. Entering an ambiguous, deceptive, or incorrect enrolment number will result in the examination result not being declared. Examination centre codes must also be filled in a similar precise manner on the answer sheet.

Which items are strictly prohibited inside the IGNOU examination centre?

Mobile phones, smartwatches, digital watches, Bluetooth devices, handbags, books, notes, calculators, and white fluid are strictly prohibited inside the IGNOU examination centre campus. Examination centres do not provide safe custody arrangements for restricted personal belongings, so candidates must carry them at their own risk outside the venue. If a student is found using unauthorized materials, a police case and Unfair Means (UFM) case will be registered. Calculators are allowed only if explicitly permitted on the question paper.

What is the fee structure for theory, practical, and project courses for January 2023 cycle students?

Students admitted from the January 2023 cycle onwards must pay Rs 200 per theory course, along with specific practical and project evaluation fees. Practical examination fees are charged at Rs 300 per course for up to 4 credits and Rs 500 per course for above 4 credits. Project evaluation fees follow the exact same structure of Rs 300 for up to 4 credits and Rs 500 for above 4 credits. Fees must be submitted online using debit cards, credit cards, or net banking.

How are combined exams like MPH002 and MPH003 conducted during IGNOU TEE?

Examinations for MPH002 and MPH003 are conducted together in a single 3-hour exam session using separate question papers and answer scripts. Each individual course exam within this combined block has an allotted duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The same combined 3-hour examination format applies to course papers MPH013 and MPH014. Candidates must ensure they receive both distinct question papers and submit separate answer scripts to the invigilator before leaving the examination hall.

Why is creating an ABC ID mandatory while filling the IGNOU TEE form?

Creating an Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) ID is mandatory so that student grades and marks can be properly reflected on DigiLocker and the ABC portal. Failure to generate and submit an ABC ID while filling out the online examination form might affect the timely declaration and official recording of term-end results. The Government of India has made ABC ID creation compulsory for all higher education students. Applicants can enter their details and complete the exam form submission on the official IGNOU examination portal.

How can students check their IGNOU online examination form payment status?

Students can check their examination form payment status on the Acknowledgement Slip portal after 72 hours of form submission, excluding holidays and weekends. To search for the transaction status, the student must enter their Enrolment Number along with their Date of Birth on the online acknowledgement portal. If no status appears after this period, the student must re-submit the examination form with the prescribed fee before the last date. Examination fees paid are neither adjusted nor refunded under normal circumstances.

Can IGNOU students re-appear in a TEE exam for a course they have already passed?

IGNOU will not declare the examination result or refund the fee if a learner re-applies for a course they have already passed. This restriction applies to both theory and practical term-end examinations submitted through the standard exam portal. Students who wish to improve their division can only apply through offline mode at the concerned section. Such division improvement applications must be submitted strictly within six months of printing the official marksheet.

What should students do if their course registration shows invalid on the IGNOU TEE portal?

Students must contact the Registrar of the Student Registration Division (SRD) via email at registrarsrd@ignou.ac.in or phone at 011-29571301 if their registration appears invalid. This step also applies if an eligible course for the term-end examination is missing from the portal drop-down menu. Learners should verify their programme validity prior to filling the online examination form carefully. Resolving registration discrepancies early ensures all required courses appear properly before the online examination submission deadline.

Can IGNOU students request to change their allotted exam centre venue?

IGNOU does not permit examinees to appear at any examination centre other than the venue explicitly mentioned on their official Admit Card or Hall Ticket. The university strictly rejects all requests for changing the allotted exam centre under any circumstances. If an exam centre is changed due to unavoidable conditions, IGNOU adjusts candidates to a nearby centre and notifies them through their Regional Centre. Students must verify their allotted venue details on the IGNOU portal.

What happens if an IGNOU student fails to sign the attendance sheet during the examination?

An examinee who fails to sign the attendance sheet in the prescribed column will be treated as absent for that IGNOU examination session. Candidates must sign strictly in the designated column located in front of their printed name and enrolment number. Signing anywhere outside the prescribed column also results in the student being marked absent. Before handing over the answer sheet to the invigilator, candidates must confirm that their signature, invigilator signature, and centre stamp are present.

Does IGNOU provide supplementary answer sheets during the Term End Examination?

IGNOU does not provide any supplementary answer sheet apart from the main answer sheet during the term-end examination. Examinees are instructed to write on every line of the booklet and avoid leaving blank pages. Before submitting the answer script to the invigilator, candidates must verify that their signature, the invigilator’s signature, and the exam centre stamp are properly affixed. Additional booklets will not be issued under any circumstances.
