MPH 001 subject name and where it sits in IGNOU MSCPH

MPH 001 Mathematical Methods in Physics is a core theory course with 4 credits. This translates to 120 hours of learner study, as one IGNOU credit equals 30 hours of study. This course is listed in the I Year (First Semester) of the IGNOU Master of Science (Physics) (MSCPH) programme, offered through the School of Sciences (SOS) with English as the programme medium.

In the same first semester of the MSCPH programme, students also study MPH 002 Classical Mechanics I, which carries 2 credits, and MPH 003 Electromagnetic Theory, also a 2-credit course. In addition, MPH 004 Quantum Mechanics I is a 4-credit course, and MPH 005 Electronics also has 4 credits.

MPH 001 assignment: download, submission and marks

MPH 001 assignments are compulsory and must be submitted before taking the Term-End Examination (July 2026). IGNOU posts each session’s assignment files programme by programme on its assignments page. However, no MPH 001 file is currently listed there.

Assignments for the current session are put on the website for download (July 2026). Tutor Marked Assignments go to the Coordinator of the learner’s Learner Support Centre (July 2026). A failed assignment must be re-submitted; once passed, it cannot be re-submitted to improve the grade.

MPH 001 question papers and the term-end exam

MPH 001 question papers from previous term-end examinations are available on IGNOU’s Previous Question Papers page. These papers are arranged by programme and course. IGNOU conducts term-end examinations twice a year, in June and December. For example, the December 2026 TEE has two sessions daily: 10 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM.

The examination fee for MPH 001, a theory course, is Rs. 200 per course for the December 2026 TEE. Learners may write the exam in Hindi, even if they registered in English medium, for the December 2026 TEE. Examination centres are available across the country and abroad for the July 2026 session.

Only term-end theory exams can be re-evaluated; projects, practicals, workshops, assignments, or seminars are not eligible. A copy of the answer script costs Rs. 100 per course as of January 2026. Hall tickets are uploaded on the University website and are not sent by post for the July 2026 session.
